Pitch Black started with a few Ohio Wesleyan women who thought it would be fun to have a female a cappella group at the University.

Now, Pitch Black has released the group’s first CD titled “The Black Album.”

“We took our album name, ‘The Black Album,’ from the Beatles’ ‘White Album,” says Pitch Black member Adrienne Scott `08. “Clever, right?”

For Scott and other members of Pitch Black, recording the CD was a fantastic experience they’ll never forget. “The CD recording was amazing,” says Anna Miller `08, director of the group. “It was a great experience for all of us, and it really challenged us because recording takes a lot of concentration and stamina. Finding the right blend with all of the 'mic-ing" was really difficult, but I think our first CD is definitely a success.”

The recording of Pitch Black’s first CD wasn’t uneventful. “The day of our scheduled session, the director at the time, Katie Personke `07, received a phone call from the guy who was supposed to record us saying he had to cancel,” recalls Scott. “It was the only weekend that we could all record as we are busy girls. Luckily, Katie works in the admission office with our savior, Hilary Lowbridge, who had a contact at Amerisound, where her former a capella group recorded CDs. Thankfully, they had an opening and could fit us in!”

Pitch Black’s “The Black Album” features 12 tracks ranging from Broadway tunes to songs by Billy Joel and the Indigo Girls. The group hosted a CD release party on February 10, but if you missed the event, you can still buy a CD. “To purchase a CD, you can contact me at amscott@owu.edu or any member of Pitch Black,” says Scott. CDs are $10.
