Ohio Wesleyan University’s Model United Nations team won multiple awards in the Northeastern Invitational Model United Nations Conference on Saturday in Mentor, Ohio. The team represented different delegations on the simulated United Nations Security Council and the North Atlantic Council (NATO). Sean Kay, associate professor of politics and government and director of the international studies program, serves as advisor for Model United Nations.

Senior Robert Shelala, club president, brought home a Superior Award for his work as the United States of America on the North Atlantic Council and sophomore Andrew B. Doll brought home an Excellence Award for his work as Russia on the United Nations Security Council. Aside from the individual awards, Ohio Wesleyan finished in second place out of five teams present at the conference.

The Model UN club has been consistently one of OWU’s most active and ambitious organizations. The members spend their weekly meetings simulating the bodies of the United Nations such as the Security Council or other international bodies to prepare for the annual Lake Erie Collegiate Model UN held in Cleveland every November as well as the annual Harvard conference held in February. This weekend’s past conference was a new addition to their schedule, and they look forward to attending next year.
