Ji Chen Returns to OWU
International business lecturer to discuss China

Ji Chen, senior finance lecturer and director of China Initiatives of the Institute for International Business at the Business School of University of Colorado – Denver, will present a lecture titled “China’s Cultural Revolution and After: A Personal Life Experience” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, in the Bayley Room at Beeghly Library.

“The ‘cultural revolution’ that began 45 years ago in China was very destructive to China’s traditional culture,” Chen says. “It brought China to a state of chaos and economic disaster that lasted for 10 years. The painful lessons of the cultural revolution led to a strong determination on the part of the Chinese people to open the doors to the outside world and to reform the economic system. This post-1978 attitude has brought about remarkably rapid development over the last 30 years.”

Since 1990, Chen has taught courses in corporate finance, financial institutions and markets, investment and portfolio management, multinational business finance, and international business management at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He also has lectured at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, London; Johns Hopkins University; Jamestown College; and the College of Business and Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver. In addition, he has lectured at Dalian University of Technology, China National Training Center for Banking and Finance, Liaoning University, and Shenzhen Security Exchange, all in the People’s Republic of China.

He has led 13 MBA study-abroad courses and seven faculty development programs in China during the past 15 years. He also serves as a business consultant for many multinational corporations with operations in China.

Chen received his BS in engineering from Dalian Institute of Technology, his MS in economics from Liaoning University, and an MS in finance from the University of Colorado – Boulder.
