You’re E-vited… Now there are even more options to keep you up to date on what’s happening at Ohio Wesleyan University. Campus news and sports releases, Connect2 OWU articles, videos, and photographs now are available by becoming an Ohio Wesleyan fan on Facebook, following our tweets on Twitter, checking out our videos and photographs on YouTube and Flickr, and more. OWU’s webmaster, Doug Thompson, has been hard at work creating these new social media pages to help keep Bishop friends and family in the know. “A third of everyone in the United States—more than 120 million people—now uses one or more social media outlets to stay connected,” Thompson says. “Our new sites are intended to allow people to follow OWU through the outlets that work best for them.” Though this marks the first official announcement of our new social media sites, more than 1,000 people already have found us on Facebook and become fans. (Even the Battling Bishop is a fan! And we’ve got links to help you connect with our admission and alumni pages, too.) In addition, more and more OWU aficionados are visiting our other sites. On OWU’s new YouTube channel, our 2009 Homecoming Weekend highlights is proving popular, already attracting nearly 150 viewers. Convocation clips, Economics Management Fellows details, and a gooey Jell-O tug-of-war fundraiser are among the other clips available. Many of the clips have been filmed and edited by OWU student Will Ruzek ’10, a geography major and budding videographer from Whitelaw, Wisconsin. Ruzek is collaborating with Linda O’Horo ’79, assistant director of media and community relations. O’Horo majored in journalism and speech communications at Ohio Wesleyan and is a former TV news reporter. “With video, we can provide a visually compelling look at events on campus,” O’Horo says. “Through our Web site and social media sites, prospective and current students, their families, alumni, and friends of OWU throughout the world can ‘visit’ campus through the magic of video and Web-streamed events.” To help you connect quickly with OWU’s new social media outlets, Thompson has created a Follow OWU page featuring links for all of the growing options. Check it out at follow.owu.edu. And if you’d like a new OWU desktop background to remind you to check all of our sites for updates, we’ve got that, too.
