Ohio Wesleyan University continues its home football season on Saturday when the Battling Bishops host Oberlin in a North Coast Athletic Conference contest at 1 p.m. at Selby Field as part of Ohio Wesleyan’s Homecoming & Family Weekend.

There will be no admission charge, but in lieu of admission, Ohio Wesleyan and Oberlin fans are asked to donate a pet item to support The Humane Society of Delaware County, says Ohio Wesleyan athletics director Roger Ingles.

“This organization does a tremendous job in taking care of neglected and abandoned animals, and this is an opportunity to help out a group that helps out so many animals,” Ingles says.

Suggested items include cat food, cat litter and trash bags, and cash donations also will be accepted.

Last year, Ohio Wesleyan eliminated charging admission for most regular-season contests, and the effect on fan support led Ingles to continue that practice into the 2009-10 academic year.

“It had a positive impact on increasing the size of our crowds and the enthusiasm at our events, which in turn makes for a more positive experience for our student-athletes,” Ingles says.
