Pumpkin Run set for October 3

Trade in your pumpkins for a pair of running shoes. Ohio Wesleyan University and the City of Delaware are teaming up for an annual event that will have you running to get there. Mark your calendars for the 5K Pumpkin Run on Saturday October 3.

This annual fundraiser donates its race proceeds to a local charity or non-profit organization. New this year, runners have the opportunity to choose that lucky organization when they register.

There will be a chance for the entire family to race to the finish line. The 2009 Family Pumpkin Run begins with the kids’ races at 7:30 a.m. for those between the ages of three and 11 years old. All the runners will receive a ribbon and mini pumpkin.

For all others who wish to run, the race begins at 8:30 a.m. sharp! Awards will be given for:

  • Top Overall Male and Female Runner
  • Top Two Walkers
  • Top Male and Female in each age group

The winning charity to receive the award money will also be announced at the awards ceremony, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

Registration is going on now! There are four ways to register for the 2009 Family Pumpkin Run:

  • Register online (or print an entry form)
  • Mail your entry form and payment to:
  • Ohio Wesleyan University
    Office of Alumni Relations
    61 S. Sandusky St.
    Delaware, OH 43015

  • Drop off your entry form and payment at:
  • City of Delaware Department of Parks and Recreation at Mingo Park or at Second Sole Total Sports, 28 N. Sandusky St., Delaware.

  • Call the Alumni Office at Ohio Wesleyan University at 740.368.3325

The run is an open course throughout the City of Delaware and Ohio Wesleyan’s campus. Beginning at Selby Fieldhouse and heading west on Henry Street, runners will get a chance to see Delaware from the perspective of a runner, not a driver.

Get those jogging suits ready and socks cleaned! This year’s Pumpkin Run is going to be a blast, and you can make a difference while running in search of a cause.
