New Economics Management Fellows Welcomed by Last Year’s Class After Move-In day ended, Ohio Wesleyan’s 2009-2010 class of Economics Management Fellows enjoyed a festive dinner in the Corns Building with their professors, Woltemade Center staff members, and the 2008-2009 Fellows. The new class, hailing from the Ohio, Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee, Illinois, China, Vietnam, and New Zealand, listened intently as their predecessors, all from the Class of 2012, discussed aspects of the program. Nearly every 2008-2009 Fellow mentioned the New York trip as a highlight of a long, interesting, and rigorous year, and many commented on the family feeling and amazing openness they experienced when they met with OWU alums now in executives positions in the financial industry. “In the future, I aspire to be one of of those alums welcoming OWU students to my office and helping to guide them,” said Shane Wepprich. Both Blair Kisker and Nick Parenzi noted how the program’s small size and shared classroom experience built and cemented friendships and created a sense of community at a time when students might be feeling a little overwhelmed. And Katie Jenks and Kate Raulin characterized the program’s offerings as a “sampler platter” that gave students an early look at the myriad paths they might take within the Department of Economics. “Try everything,” they recommended. “You never know where something will lead.” Then it was off to Convocation, as the new Fellows took their first real step into life at Ohio Wesleyan, bolstered by the advice and friendship of confident, involved students who were nervous freshmen only a year ago.– Gretchen Hirsch |
