The Women’s City Club of Delaware is asking the Ohio Wesleyan and Delaware communities to donate gently used items for a garage sale benefiting a house that provides a stable living environment for working women of modest incomes.

The club is accepting items such as household goods, clothing, and furniture. “Yard-sale items!” says Julia Thompson of Delaware, a member of Women’s City Club for 16 years.

The club is a social organization and volunteer-based service group. It owns and maintains an historic 1800s-era residence at 135 N. Franklin St. The home also not only benefits its female residents, but the greater Delaware community.

The common area, located on the first floor, can be rented for parties, receptions, dinners, and other gatherings. Women living in the house even provide catering.

“It costs about $3,000 a month to maintain the house,” Thompson says.

Because the club is service based, all funds are generated though fundraisers, such as the garage sale, which is set for August 1 and 2.

“They have been doing this for years,” Thompson says of club members.

Garage sales typically take place when something in the house needs to be repaired, she says. The August sale will help to fix windows, which will cost about $5,000.

Donations to the sale may be made by dropping off items at the house or arranging to have them picked up by calling Thompson at (740) 815-0181.
