This year’s Alumni Weekend—which kicks off Friday, May 16 and runs through Sunday, May 18—has a little something for everyone.
Some of the activities on the agenda this year include OWU Mock Election 2008, where attendees can unofficially cast their vote for president of the United States, and an art show at Austin Manor featuring work from a recent alumna. Alumni can cast their mock presidential votes while checking in at the registration center May 16 or May 17. The election results will be announced Saturday evening during the class dinners. The art show will occur during the annual open house at Austin Manor, held from 2-4 p.m. May 17 in the main lobby. Kati Henning ’06 will display her abstract paintings, many of which are representative of landscapes. “It’s a career on the side,” says Henning, who earned a bachelor of fine arts from Ohio Wesleyan and has lived in Austin Manor for the past four years with her sister, Mandy Henning ’04. “I’m trying to build my portfolio so I can get into gallery shows.” Although Henning wants the focus of the show to be on “fun,” select pieces of her art will be available for purchase. She will be on hand at the art show to answer questions for those interested in taking home one of her works. Other highlights of the weekend include the Alumni Recognition Ceremony—held at 11 a.m. May 17 in Gray Chapel—which will honor the achievements of Carol Scott ’53, David Hobson ’58, Jay Ankeney ’43, and Richard North Patterson ’68. In addition to being recognized at the Alumni Recognition Ceremony, Patterson will present “Imagining Reality: Writing Best-Selling Fiction” at 3 p.m. May 17 in Room 312 of the RW Corns Building. Robert “Buzz” Pine ’63 and his wife, Gwynne Pine, will give a theatrical reading titled “Love Letters” at 2 p.m. May 17 in Chappelear Drama Center. If attendees stick around until Sunday, they can catch the all-alumni breakfast in the remodeled Smith Dining Hall, take part in the all-alumni Convocation in Gray Chapel, or even browse through the Delaware Arts Festival in downtown Delaware.
