Sporting names such as “Spare Change,” “The Nail Drivers,” and “House of Power,” a total of 16 OWU faculty, staff, and student teams participated in the 10th annual Bowling for Kids Sake competition on April 4 at Delaware Lanes. Nine of those teams represented OWU’s Greek organizations, most of which also participated within the same time period in such fund raising activities as Relay for Life, Pasta for Life, and Anchor Splash.

For at least the second year in a row, The Nail Drivers, headed by Donn Moore, building trades supervisor within the buildings and grounds office, captured first place, raising $1,440. Chi Phi student counterparts sharing first-place trophies as well, raised $1,019. Other winners within the second and third place categories—Circle K and the House of Power crew—received such culinary creations as a jug of cheese balls and an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.

“A total of $5,363.99 was raised by our team members,” says Sue Pasters, director of community service learning.

The money goes to Delaware’s Big Brother/Big Sisters organization in partnership with Willis Intermediate School in Delaware.

“This year, our five faculty members from the economics department comprising the Spare Change team, had special T-shirts made especially for this competition,” says Pasters. “They deserve a Spirit Award!”

Although the jug of cheeseballs was perhaps the most coveted prize, all of the bowlers were winners.

“We all have looked forward to this year’s competition and to raising much-needed funds and having fun at the same time,” says Moore.
