![]() April 16, 2008 Greek Awards Event Salutes Fraternity and Sorority Contributions
In an event hosted by Maureen Cearfoss, Delta Delta Delta, and Adam Dworetsky, Chi Phi, and punctuated by on-stage break dancing, moonwalking, and T-shirt tossing—and an appearance by the Bishop—OWU’s Greek community members gathered to honor their own and celebrate their achievements during 2007. “The purpose of the ceremony,” says Allison Bressler, assistant director of student involvement for Greek life, “is to recognize fraternity and sorority achievement on many levels, from scholarship to service to campus and community involvement. I was excited about this event because it was my first one since I arrived at OWU. The organizers did a great job, and the ceremony was really fun and involving for everyone who attended.” Although the event was planned by Megan Abram, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Zack Taft, Alpha Sigma Phi, the vice presidents of Panhellenic and Interfraternity Councils, many more council members were on hand to present the awards. Following the awards presentation, a certificate of recognition was presented to Alpha Kappa Alpha on the centennial of its founding at Howard University as the first Greek letter organization for college-trained African American women. — Gretchen Hirsch |
