March 19, 2008

54, 53, 52…

In a mere 54 days, the Ohio Wesleyan University Class of 2008 will don their caps and gowns, receive their well-deserved diplomas, and begin the next phase of their lives.

But before then, every senior is invited and encouraged to attend the two-day “Countdown to Commencement” event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 20 in Benes Room B of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center.

“This is the time for seniors to make sure any outstanding issues are addressed,” says Nancy Bihl Rutkowski, assistant director of student involvement for leadership, recognition, and campus spirit. “It’s also a time to have some fun—to order caps and gowns, to order graduation announcements, and even to win some prizes.”

“Countdown to Commencement,” previously called “Senior Salute,” will feature representation from all OWU offices and outside organizations that seniors may need to finalize their graduation preparations, Rutkowski says.

Event participants will include:

  • Alumni Relations
  • Career Services
  • Financial Aid
  • OWU Bookstore
  • Registrar’s Office
  • Senior Class Gift
  • Senior Class President Kate Shannon
  • Student Accounts / Student Loans

Also on hand will be Cubberly Studios, Oak Hall Cap & Gown, and Jostens, which is providing a free class ring to one lucky prizewinner. Other prizes will include portfolios and resume paper, T-shirts and totes, gift certificates from downtown Delaware merchants, and gasoline cards.

For those seniors unable to attend “Countdown to Commencement,” a flier of information will be mailed this week.
